Talks held at Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan

The Minister of Transport of Latvia, Mr. Aivis Ronis, who is in Ashgabat on a working visit, held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. This is reported by the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The talks were held in a constructive and business-like atmosphere. The sides exchanged views on issues relating to building up effective cooperation in the field of transport and communications as well as exploring opportunities of cooperation in the sphere of transit and logistics of transport routes between Turkmenistan and Latvia with the view of developing effective and mutually beneficial solutions for international freight transportation.

According to the sides, during the Turkmen leader’s official visit to Riga in September this year, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Latvia Andris Berzins laid a promising foundation for development of cooperation in the area, which is so important for both countries. Given their favorable geographic locations, Turkmenistan and Latvia have the great potential for cooperation in the long term.

In this context, the sides noted the important role of Turkmenistan as a connecting link between the global transport corridors – “North-South” and “East-West”, as well as Turkmenistan’s initiatives to expand and strengthen the mutually beneficial economic relations in the Eurasian continent.

On this occasion, Mr. Aivis Ronis extended his congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of Turkmenistan’s election to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations for 2013-2015.
